That's too simple...

The other day while sharing the basic concepts of the Decision Point approach to security, a long time friend challenged my premise that having a base security mindset and simple steps to take as countermeasures would be effective in increasing safety and security of my clients and readers.

What I am talking about, he said, was 'too simple'.

I suppose for some people it may be; particularly those that work in the security business everyday...

Of course, these things ARE simple for them and this is true because those people already have a SECURITY MINDSET in place.

Think about the irony of that for just a moment...

A person that works in security believes that teaching effective, simple counter measures wont work wonders for your security... even though they implement these simple steps themselves.

The only difference between you and them is that they think about security on a consistent basis so their actions are always influenced by this CORE MINDSET - Doing the simple things keeps most predators at bay.

This is true because most criminal elements will focus on the ill prepared. Their attention is drawn to the weakest link in the chain as it is the easiest to break through.

The result of strengthening your own security through simple steps is that you personally become a HARD target. That is why you and your employees, family members and others must develop a security mindset, because after that, taking action and paying attention becomes second nature... as a result, you're habits change and you become more secure as individuals and as a unit.

So...

My response to my friend?

YES - this is simple and that's the point.

For too long security professionals, especially in IT, have pretended that the only way to stay safe as we move into the future is with better technology.

That's B.S.

You already own the most sophisticated piece of security software on the market and you carry it with you everyday... in that 6 inch space between your ears.

The trick now is... will you use it?

The first step is EASY PEASY - Check out our video series on YouTube - '60 Seconds on Security' and start your journey to a security mindset today...

Your future self will thank you!
